Stewie You're the Greatest

YouTube - Stewie Drunk

Just a bad week.

This past week at work was crap. Normally my work weeks go pretty smoothly. But this past week not so much.

Problems with base Java classes and SMS functionality. Sometimes computers just suck.
It took me awhile but I finially have everything with my sites working correctly. Hopefully I won't recieve any calls next week about people being spammed with 1000+ text messages.

Anyways,

Happy Birthday goes out to my friend Melissa. Cakebaker and I went out last night and celebrated her birthday. This weekend looks very promising. Tonight Cakebaker and I have some chill time. Hopefully a nice relaxing evening. Saturday my friend Kyle is celebrating his 30th birthday. It'll be a night to remember! Sunday I will be visiting my sister. I haven't seen her and her family in such a long time.

This month coming up is going to be busy as hell. Cakebaker and I have two weddings to attend. One of which, I'm in the wedding party. The other is out east in Nova Scotia. We will be flying out there.

I'm looking forward to the trip out east because life moves slower out there. Which is great because Toronto can move you around so fast that sometimes you pass right by life.

Last but not lease there are going to be some changes made to the site. As you've probably notice the photography link takes you to a new page now. There is going to be a 'community' gallery where you can view a pool of photographs taken by anyone who wants to contribute. Right now I'm still working through some small kinks in the system. But don't be suprised if you find an invite to register and start upload pics in your email soon.

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend. Cheers.

PHP and Uploading files - The source

Here is the HTML / PHP code I used to upload my images files via FTP.

HTML web form
PHP ftp ini
PHP ftp upload

PHP and Uploading files.

The past couple of days I've been working on a solution to upload files to my web host using PHP and an HTML form.

I have found out some interesting information that I thought I would share.

I'm sure anyone that has used PHP before knows that when you upload a file you're going to use the move_uploaded_file() function. I have found that when you use this function on a Linux / Unix based web host that are some issues when in comes to setting file permissions.

Normally you upload the files to a directory that has read / write permissions (666 / 664). Then you simply change the permissions on the file by running the chmod($file, 0644) so everyone can read the file. I tried using these menthods and different have to much success.

Then I tried to upload the files to a directory that had read / write and execute permissions (777) and it work but I felt that having a directory with permissions like that on a web server is just asking for trouble. Also, I found that if you uploaded a file to a directory with those permissions and then run the chmod() function on the file that your ftp client can no manipulate the file (delete, rename or change permissions).

I knew there had to be a better way to upload these files and not have to deal with file permissions. Well PHP has some FTP functions and one of those functions, ftp_put(), allows you to upload files.

I'll post the source code later. If you have any suggestion / comments please feel free to give me some feed back.

not the smartest bunch...are ya?

ever so slowly the american way is becoming the canadian way-food wise, i think it's total bullshit. why must they inflict such pointless "inventions" on us and why do we embrace them? i mean, honestly...how time consuming are flippin' hot dogs?!?! weren't they pegged as the quick meal that you have when you don't have that much time? first microwaveable kraft dinner, then pre-grilled, frozen grilled cheese sandwiches and now this. i've heard stories about cereal flavoured milk. yep, flavoured milk because pouring milk over actual cereal is far too labour intensive for most. maybe it's even harder from one of those motorized scooters. i can safely say that none of these food items will ever enter my body. thankfully, i can sacrifice the five minutes it takes to grill some bread and melt some cheese...in a pan. whew, i'm tuckered out just thinking about it.

and the winner is....not me-shocking!

third round of the photo contest put on by blogTO is over and i didn't place. i don't really expect to win but man...it would be nice. no one really likes to lose, even when they know they will. i also didn't agree with their choice for the winning shot this time 'round. i thought there was a much better one but hey, i'm not running the show so what do i know?
in other news bean had a bath and now she hates me while she occupies space on the couch drying...that little frigger.

Phase 1 Complete.

Phase 1 of "Plan, Organize and Execute" is now complete.

Last night Cakebaker and I cleaned out the storage locker and then we moved the storage boxes that were in our bedroom into the storage locker as well as a few things from our hall closet. It looks like there is enough space for all of our things and then some.

Our room looks completely different now. Well maybe not completely different but it has that 'fresh' look.

Also, I have decided to donate some of my old computer books to the Thrift shop across the street. I know for a fact that I'm never going to pick up these books again because they're about operating systems that are over 10 years old.

I'm surprised at some of the things that I've held onto for so long.

Anyways,

Phase 2 of "Plan, Organize and Execute" will be rolled out later this week.

Cheers.

i'm going to need a security guard to hold my bag...

i've been searching for something girlie...something i said i would never have. a purse. essentially it's a bag but it's just sounds weird to say i'm searching for a bag. maybe i'm the only one who thinks it sounds pervy in a way. so in my search i've learned one thing...i have expensive taste. it's not intentional though. i'm actually quite surprised at how much these things are actually sold for. i honestly think it's gross.
i thought i'd look around on ebay, maybe catch a deal. if the timing is right you can get certain items for less than half of the retail price. to my shock, the average "deal" price i could find was roughly $10 000. the prices only went up from here. i think the most expensive was $17 500. for a fucking purse! down payment on a condo...or something to hold my keys, wallet and lip blam? oooh, such a tough choice, if i was completely insane. i'm glad and i think properlofi will be too, that i have enough sense to recognize this as something that i want and not need. insanity defined would be if i could somehow rationalize spending that kind of money on something so unimportant. i saw some prada bags for under $200 and i thought that was a bit much but now they're looking like a bargin.
i guess i'll just have to save some money and treat myself someday. you can't work just to pay bills, right? thankfully the majority of my saved money will be going towards a condo and not a purse...bag, whichever. who knew being girlie was this expensive. i totally blame paris hilton and lindsay lohan for fucking it up for the rest of us.

grab your partner?

at my elementary school they taught us square dancing. purpose...? i still have no flippin' idea why they would even bother with it. i mean my parents don't even know how to square dance. i think it was some twisted safe gender socializing drill or something. interaction bewtween the sexes but with directions. anyway...i think they should have taught us some cool shit like this. his body doesn't even look real at times. it's pretty flippin' cool ass.

Plan, Organize and Execute

I'm not sure what it is today but I feel the need to organize my living space.

I moved in with Cakebaker awhile ago and all of our combined items make quite a bit of clutter. Some of these items tend to disappear for a day or two and then magically reappear. It not because we're disorganized that things disappear. It has more to do with the fact that we did not take the time to organize and make 'homes' for all of our items.

So I'm in the process of coming up with a plan to organize my living space and remove a lot of clutter.

Tonight I'm going to take the first step and remove all my old books and magazines that are sitting up my shelves taking up space. I'm sure as quick as I make space it will be filled with other items.

Also, I'm going to make an attempt to clean out one of the storage boxes. Maybe we'll get lucky and our build supervisor will assign us one of the open storage lockers because it would be nice to have a place where I can put all of these empty storage boxes. We can only hope.

Wish me luck.

It's a really cool video and I thought I would share it with everyone.
Plus it goes well with my YouTube video spree!

Clark - Body Riddle

Thanks to Bleep I can post the new ablum from Clark.

where the flip am i?!?!?!?

and once again....a co-worker completely forgets what it is we do here and totally fucks me over. i'm so god-damned sick of everyone not doing what they're supposed to do. it's hardly rocket science!! none of them are new, not by a long shot so in my mind it's absolutely unacceptable. this also means everyone else in the building will continue to think of this department as a bunch of morons who have no clue how to do anything and the bosses will have more meetings telling all of us how fucking dumb, lazy and complacent we are. i'm tired of it. i'm tired of being lumped into this group. i'm tired of carrying other people in a job that some of them have been doing twice as long as i have. i'm tired of complaining about it. i need to figure something out and it's gotta be sooner rather than later. i'm not exactly sure what i'm going to do or how to go about doing it.

Johnny Cash....

It's interesting what you can dig up if you look long enough.

Thanks YouTube.

Johnny Cash Live. I'm not sure where this was shot. If someone could find that out that would be great.

It ain't me babe

and

Jackson from Walk the Line.

we had no choice but to sing in the rain....

a lowlight of the weekend- a disguntingly drunk demin shirt wearing 40-something wanker who obviously doesn't engage in too many social encounters who yelled through the first ninety minutes of the ben harper show in michigan. i kindly asked him to shut it when ben had started his first encore, an acoustic solo set. a highlight of the weekend- his friends helping him to walk out of the show approximately two minutes after i asked him to be quiet.
a lowlight- the stupid wrath of ernesto hitting toronto the day of the ben harper show. i've never gone to a show at the amphitheatre in the rain like that. after toughing it out for just a tad over four hours, putting up with pruney fingers and saturated clothes we gave in to ernesto and headed home for some much needed hot chocolate.
a highlight- dancing in the rain and having jon do his best to keep me comfortable and somewhat dry. it didn't hurt that we had some really good music as a soundtrack for the night. wendals, my musical trooper made the night fun, no matter what the weather was doing. i can always count on her to make the bad stuff pretty freaking fun.
i can't think of any other lowlights but i've got a list of highlights:
- winning both rounds of "name that tune" against the self proclaimed champs, wendals and joshals. it was my first time playing so maybe it was just beginner's luck...but prolly not. heehehe.
- enjoying some rice crispies squares made lovingly by dk, aka mama keith. i can't remember the last time i had those.
- a wonderful, peaceful sleep after our night in the rain. there's something about the cool air and a warm bed that just makes your sleep that much better. thanks to jon for keeping me warm.

September has come.

It's the start of a new month and I have realized that this year has gone by quickly.
4 months left in 2006. I can't complain to much because this year has been great. The 'theme' of this year was about change and I have accomplished much of that.

There are few changes that I have to make before the this year is over. I'm sure these changes will be easy to accomplish. I just have to plan, organize and execute them.

Anyways,

I must congratulate my friend Mike. I helped him get an interview at my work and they sent him a job offer.

Congratulations Mike. I wish you all the best with your new career.

I'll leave you all with a view of the Toronto that I see almost everyday.

Have a good long weekend everyone.
